Vršic-Pass

A multitude of hairpin bends, cobblestone only in places, winter closure between October and May, summit at 1,611 meters – the Vršič Pass between Kranjska Gora and the Soča Valley is one of Slovenia's toughest passes. However, the challenging passages are almost exclusively on its northern climb; the ascent from the south is much easier. The "Werschetzpass" was built during the First World War, by the way, almost exclusively by Russian prisoners of war – a sad chapter.
