Kaunertaler Gletscherstrasse

Gletscherstraße (Glacier Road) traverses every Alpine elevation – from the meadows and farmland at submontane level, to the permanent ice of snow level at over 3,000 meters. The toll road (cars: EUR 23.00/day; motorbikes: EUR 13.00/day; bicycles: free) begins at an altitude of 1,273 meters in Feichten in the valley bottom and then navigates 29 hairpin bends over a distance of 16 miles with a difference in altitude of almost 1,500 meters. The finish is located at an altitude of 2,750 meters, from where the 3,108-meter high viewing point is accessible via the gondolas of the Karlesjochbahn cable car, affording a fantastic panoramic view towards South Tyrol and on into Switzerland.
