The Road to South Tyrol
This road trip promises plenty of variety and pure driving pleasure. From the Engadin in Switzerland, the day-long tour will take you through three countries and over four mountain passes. First, the route will lead you via the steep and winding road of the Fuorn Pass towards Italy, a cross-border foray made possible by the zig-zagging connecting road from the Fuorn Pass to the Stelvio Pass. At a length of only 32 km, this connecting road – the Umbrail Pass – features no fewer than 63 hairpin bends.First, however, it is well worth stopping at the vantage point at 2,758 metres above sea level to take in the views of this world-famous road and, if you fancy, sample the wares of Europe’s highest-altitude sausage vendor. With a focus on your driving pleasure, the route will continue into the Vinschgau and over the Reschen Pass.
