Blue Ridge Parkway
Known simply as “America’s Favorite Drive", the Blue Ridge Parkway is something of a national icon. Crossing some of the most dramatic terrain in the Appalachians, this route has the good fortune of being not only gorgeous, but also eminently drivable. The Parkway can be accessed at multiple points along its 469-mile length. We recommend starting at the James River Visitor Center, which connects to U.S. Route 501 near Lynchburg. From here, the route climbs rapidly into the mountains before descending past Roanoke to the famous Mabry Mill.Passing Cumberland Knob, the route grows more impressive with every turn. Rough Ridge Lookout, with its views of Linn Cove Viaduct and Grandfather Mountain, is an absolute must see.
