Silvretta-Hochalpenstraße
Silvretta High Alpine Road stretches between the Paznaun Valley in Tyrol and Montafon in Vorarlberg. The Bielerhöhe Pass to the north of Silvretta reservoir marks the route's highest point, at 2,037 meters. Incidentally, the reservoir and power station are the only reason the High Alpine Road was built: from 1925 – under more than questionable conditions even for Nazi times – until it was completely opened in 1961, the toll road was built by "Illwerke" to enable the construction of Silvretta reservoir.
