Lysebotn

A nice drive from Ålgård through Oltedal, Dirdal, Byrkjedal, Sinnes and Fidjeland before reaching the popular tourist road Lysevegen to Lysebotn in Forsand in Ryfylke, in the innermost part of the Lysefjord. Lysevegen was built as a construction road in connection with the development of Tjodan power plant and was officially opened in 1984. Before that time, the boat was the only fixed means of communication with the outside world for people in Lysebotn. From Lysebotn, the road first goes through a 1100 meter long tunnel. Furthermore, the road winds in 27 sharp hairpin turns to the high mountains. At the top of the ascent (640 masl) is the restaurant Øygardstøl and the parking lot for the hike to Kjerag. The highest point on the road is at Andersvatn, 950 masl. The road is open in the period May - end of October / November (depending on snow conditions). The road is part of the famous Suleskarvegen going from Telemark via Setesdal and Sirdal to Stavanger.
