From OUDTSHOORN to PRINCE ALBERT: Exploring the LITTLE KAROO in SOUTH AFRICA via the SWARTBERG PASS and the MEIRINGSPOORT CANYON

A route rather for the CAYENNE, not the CAYMAN. The SWARTBERG PASS, built from 1881 to 1886 was a masterpiece at its time. The 27 km long dirt track winds up to an altitude of 1583 m. Don't forget to take a warm jacket with you. While you will be sweating for sure down in OUDTSTHOORN the windy peak of the pass can be quite chilly. Get your rear out of the car anyway to take a couple of pictures. Make sure you don't miss the CANGO CAVES right beside your way up the SWARTBERG PASS shortly after leaving OUDTSHOORN. They are considered one of the most beautiful stalactite caves in the world. After a short coffee break in PRINCE ALBERT make your way back to OUDTSHOORN via the spectacular MEIRINGSPOORT canyon. Another must drive and see on this tour. The MEIRINGSPOORT WATERFALLS are worth the short detour as well. Back in OUDTSHOORN skip the ostrich for dinner which you will be offered for sure as ostriches are bred on a large scale in this area. This is South Africa in the end. So go for an impala steak instead. Absolutely delicious...
