Austria's highest paved border crossing lies 2,474 meters above sea level and a toll is payable from Hochgurgl. The Timmelsjoch Pass is open from June to October and its Italian side is particularly impressive – due not only to its surroundings, but also to its extremely demanding route. The 1,800-meter altitude poses a huge challenge, especially for cyclists.
