Berninapass

The 2,328-meter high Bernina Pass is considered to be one of the few Alpine passes dating back to pre-ancient or even pre-medieval times. At the summit are Bernina Hospice as well as the Lej Nair and Lago Bianco lakes. Between both lakes runs not only the main European watershed between the Black Sea and the Adriatic, but also the border between the Rhaeto-Romaic and Italian-speaking areas. To the west of today's route lies a second, green pass crossing that was also repeatedly used in the past.
