William Tell's Neck of the Woods

Escaping the city – from Lucerne, the route will take you out along Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug into the mountains. Once Küssnacht and Wilhelm Tell’s famous Hohle Gasse (Hollow Way) are behind you, a winding, narrow road will take you towards the Sihlsee reservoir and on into the canton of Glarus. At the top of the Obersee lake, the route heads south and will take you directly into the Glarus Alps. Here, the highlight in terms of both landscape and driving will be revealed in the form of the Klausen Pass and the summit of the same name. Some 47 km and 34 hairpin bends, along which you might also occasionally encounter cattle, will take you from the canton of Glarus to Uri, and so back to Lake Lucerne. Driving along its western shore, you will arrive back at the tour’s starting point.
