Von Esslingen nach Schorndorf: Im Schurwald zwischen Neckar, Rems und Fils

Lonely little streets as far as the eye can see are not to be expected in the densely populated greater Stuttgart area. But at least they're here too: Small side roads that are a lot of fun. The fun begins already 15 km east of the Stuttgart city centre in Esslingen, from where the first curvy ascent still brings us on quite wide roads high into the Schurwald. The pleasure really starts after we have turned left in Baltmannsweiler. From here we turn through the Schurwald and even roam the vineyards on the slopes of the Remstal valley. From there it goes on the other side almost down into the Filstal valley between Ebersbach and Uhingen. Before, however, our loop turns north again until we plunge back on the crest of the Schurwald into the Remstal towards Schorndorf, the home of the racing driver Paul Ernst Strähle, who celebrated numerous class victories in the 1950s on Porsche 356, including famous races such as the Mille Miglia or the Rallye Liège - Rome - Liège. If you don't just want to indulge in the glorious past of your car, take the four-lane B29/B14/B10 connection for the way back from Schorndorf to Esslingen. A disreputable traffic route that takes no account of driving fun. But he takes us directly past the Mercedes-Benz Museum, which is always worth a visit. Whether it is nicer than the nearby Porsche Museum is a matter of opinion, as is the question of whether the tour described above is also fun in a Daimler. Let's put it this way: If it has to be, then at least take an SLK.
