USA - Along the Salmon River, Somes Bar to Etna, CA
This is not the typical spirited canyon driving road. The first few miles on either end of the route are such, but the rest is a slow scenic tour. After the first few miles, the center line is gone and the asphalt is 1 1/2 to one lane wide. The surface is good and there are no potholes. Low ground clearance cars should have no difficulty. I rate the road a 2 but the scenery is beyond a 5. This has to be the most spectacular road in CA. It follows the Salmon River, and in spots, the road is cut into cliffs 500' above the river. Mining shacks 150 years old still sit along side the road. The entire area seems to be the result of the imagination of a Hollywood CGI designer - it's incredible and highly recommended if you don't mind driving at 25-45 mph for miles.
