Sächsische Schweiz at its best: Von der Festung Königstein zur Bastei über den Deutschlandring - natürlich via Porschdorf
One man-made, the other shaped by nature: The KÖNIGSTEIN fortress and the natural monument BASTEI are among the tourist icons of Saxon Switzerland. How nice that they are close to each other - and on the way from one to the other there are a few real GTS moments. The route starts unspectacularly at the fortress on the B 172 towards the village of Königstein. And becomes extremely worth seeing when it plunges down onto the Elbe valley shortly before Königstein. In Königstein we leave the direct way to Bad Schandau in the direction of Gohrisch and turn the slope once up and after Gohrisch down again over small roads. Back in the Elbe valley we cross the Elbe in Bad Schandau and follow the signs to BASTEI. In Porschdorf we treat ourselves to the second detour and head straight for Hohnstein instead of the Bastei. The way there leads us through a small valley with an equally small road. From Hohnstein on, it's GTS square. First down the mountain, then up again on the other side: Sweeping without end! No wonder. This used to be part of the Deutschlandring, Germany's first racetrack. Arrived at the other side above, we let it roll out relaxed up to the Bastei. But nobody prevents us from taking the same route again on the way back...
