Pikes Peak Highway

Colorado's Rocky Mountains are home to 54 Fourteeners, i.e. mountains that tower over 14,000 feet or 4,200 meters. The most eastern of them: Pikes Peak. Due to this special location, "el Capitán", as it was also called by Spanish settlers, is relatively low in snow despite its height.Probably one of the reasons why the world-famous mountain race "Pikes Peak International Hill Climb" has been held here every year since 1916. A second reason: 156 hand-picked curves on a distance of just under 20 km. The legendary serpentine track offers countless challenges. Challenges that may even have reinforced their myth. This includes the thin mountain air, which can be exhausting for both driver and material. And the safety barriers that are missing in many places - despite the abysses of several 100 m directly at the edge of the track. The ride to the summit has only been fully tarred since 2011, making record times far below the 10:47 min of Walter Röhrl from 1987 possible. Thanks to the newly asphalted road, the Pikes Peak Highway can become an unforgettable experience with a perfectly balanced sports car such as the Boxster GTS or the Cayman GTS.
