Col d'Aspin
Twisting ascent to the Col d’Aspin.

A fantastic route with many twisting bends that can be enjoyed to the full, with frequent panoramic views back down into the valley. This route has also been part of the Tour de France several times. It starts in the idyllic village of Arreau. And ends at the Col d’Aspin.

The first few miles follow the course of a small stream up through a narrow valley. After two exciting hairpin bends, the valley has already been left far behind and the road now climbs a mountain side that becomes ever steeper. The hairpin bends spectacularly change direction several times, demanding plenty of concentration and vehicle control from the driver. At the same time, practically every turn offers breathtaking views of the road sections already completed as well as an outstanding view of the valley far below.

After around 7.5 miles, the road finally arrives at the Col d’Aspin at an altitude of 4,885 ft. A car park just off the road is the ideal place for a short break. From here, there is a beautiful view of the impressive mountain panorama of the Pyrenees.

After taking this in, I recommend to make the descent on the road heading north-west. This also has numerous twists and turns and is great fun to drive.
